Meet Catherine Emmerson

Catherine Emmerson, Founder and CEO of CGA Strategies LLC, has more than twenty-five years of public and private sector government relations experience.
A former senior Environmental Protection Agency political appointee during the George W. Bush administration, Catherine focuses her practice on environmental, energy, and forestry related issues. Recognized for her bipartisan, multi-faceted, and resourceful approach to advocacy ("no stone can be left unturned"), Catherine prides herself on the achievement of multiple regulatory and legislative affairs successes done behind the scenes, during both Republican and Democratic administrations.
A Sidley Austin LLP alum, where she represented industries in the energy/environmental space, including the forest products sector, Catherine launched CGA Strategies LLC in 2017.
Passionate about the forest products sector ("trees are my life at work and at home"), Catherine continues to represent the timber industry and is also married to Mark D. Emmerson, CEO, of Emmerson family owned, Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI). Sierra Pacific Industries is currently the nation's largest private land owner and one of the largest U.S. lumber producers. SPI also produces millwork, windows and renewable energy,
Catherine began her career on Capitol Hill and worked for Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), while also going to law school at night. The daughter of Colombian immigrants and a native Spanish speaker, she prides herself on being born an American, but raised with Colombian "salero." She is a graduate of American University and obtained her JD from The George Washington University Law School. She remains an active member of the District of Columbia Bar.
Catherine commutes between Cottonwood, California and Washington, DC. She and Mark have a blended family of five children. Catherine sits on the Boards of the Primary Day School in Bethesda, MD and the Cottonwood Community Library in Cottonwood, CA. She co-chairs the Prospect Street Citizens Association. An engaged member of the St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, MD, Catherine sits on the Board and is very engaged in raising money for SAES financial aid. She loves to run, shoot clay pigeons, cook and garden.
