Meet Catherine Emmerson
Strategic. Bipartisan. Resourceful. Effective.
Catherine Emmerson, Founder and CEO of CGA Strategies LLC, has more than twenty years of public and private sector government relations experience. A former senior Environmental Protection Agency political appointee during the George W. Bush administration, Catherine focuses her practice on environmental, energy, and forestry related issues. Widely recognized for her bipartisan, multi-faceted, and resourceful approach to advocacy ("no stone can be left unturned"), Catherine prides herself on the achievement of multiple regulatory and legislative public affairs successes done behind the scenes, and many during the Obama administration.
Most recently at Sidley Austin LLP, where she represented numerous industries, including the forest products sector, Catherine launched CGA Strategies LLC in 2017 in an effort to be a full-time mother to her youngest child, but still have the ability to remain engaged in the government affairs space. Passionate about the forest products sector ("trees are my life at work and at home"), Catherine continues to represent the timber industry and is also married to Mark Emmerson, Chairman of the Board and Chief Financial Officer of family owned, Sierra Pacific Industries. Sierra Pacific Industries is the nation's third largest private landowner and one of the largest U.S. lumber producers.
Catherine began her career on Capitol Hill when she worked for Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), while also going to law school at night. The daughter of Colombian immigrants and a native Spanish speaker, she prides herself on being born an American, but raised with Colombian "salero." She is a graduate of American University and obtained her law degree from The George Washington University Law School. She remains an active member of the District of Columbia Bar.
Catherine commutes between Redding, California and Washington, DC. She and her husband, Mark, have a blended family of five children whose ages range from twenty-seven to seven.
